Adapter and access licenses
Welcome to the ioBroker cloud and license area!
Here you get the extra options that make your smart home more powerful and more flexible. At the bottom of the page we answer the most frequent questions.
- Voice control: Control your smart home by voice with Alexa, Google Home or Yandex Alisa
- Remote access: Reach your smart home securely from anywhere, by app or browser
- Visualisation: Use the dashboards you built yourself even without an internet connection
- Services: Connect ioBroker to platforms such as Geofency, Tasker or URL service
- Licenses: Licenses for certain adapters such as KNX, Jaeger-Design widgets or vis-2
ioBroker is free. And stays free.
The platform and all basic functions cost nothing. The licences on this page unlock features that make everyday life noticeably easier: remote access while you are out, control by voice and visualisation even without an internet connection.
So what you buy is first of all something you use yourself every day. And because that income pays for the development and for running the servers, the core stays free for everyone else.
A feature for you, a future for ioBroker.
Smart assistant and services
- Voice control – Amazon Alexa / Google Home / Yandex Alisa
- Services – Geoposition / Tasker / URL services
- Matter – Connecting Matter-capable devices
How to set it up
- Register at iobroker.pro
- Install the ioBroker.iot adapter on your ioBroker instance
- Sign in to the adapter with your iobroker.pro credentials
- Activate the voice service you want:
Amazon Alexa:
- Activate the ioBroker.iot skill in the Alexa app
- Individual control and status queries: additionally activate the ioBroker.custom skill
Google Home:
- Connect ioBroker through ioBroker Actions in the Google Home app
What can the assistant do?
You control your devices and scenes by voice and ask for their state, through Amazon Alexa, Google Home or Yandex Alisa. It takes an account at iobroker.pro and the ioBroker.iot adapter on your instance. Which devices the assistant knows, and what they are called, you set in the adapter.
What are services?
Services are calls from outside: through a personal service URL you send data to your system and trigger actions you defined beforehand: the position of your phone for geofencing, readings from other systems, or webhooks from IFTTT and Tasker. You create the actions in the ioBroker.iot adapter. Every call counts like a voice command.
What does Matter have to do with it?
The Matter adapter itself is free: you can connect and control as many Matter devices in ioBroker as you like. Only the other direction is limited: passing your own ioBroker devices on to Apple Home, Google Home or Alexa through the Matter bridge. Without a license that is five devices, with the license as many as you want.
Remote access to ioBroker
- Access to visualisation and settings – by app and/or browser, vis-2 incl. editing, Admin, JavaScript, e-charts
- Smart assistant license included – all functions included
How to set it up
- Register for free access at iobroker.net, or for the Pro version at iobroker.pro
- Install the ioBroker.cloud adapter on your ioBroker instance
- Sign in to the adapter with your iobroker.net or iobroker.pro credentials
Why is this safe?
Your ioBroker opens the connection outwards by itself. You do not have to open a port in your router or run a DynDNS service. Your system is not directly reachable from outside.
iobroker.net or iobroker.pro?
iobroker.net is the free access, with limits on data volume and functionality.
iobroker.pro is the paid access: extended remote access with vis-2 for editing as well, plus Admin, JavaScript and e-charts, the smart assistants and the services.
What happens when it runs out?
The license does not renew automatically. You receive a reminder before it expires. If you do not renew, only remote access ends: ioBroker keeps running locally, including all local automations.
vis-2
- Visualisation tool – for private and commercial use
- Offline version available – use without an internet connection
- Lifetime license
Which vis-2 license do you need?
vis-2 is an ioBroker adapter that requires a license. The license is valid on one ioBroker server and is bound to its serial number (UUID). It can be moved to new hardware up to three times. Write to info@iobroker.net for that.
With the free version the license is checked every time ioBroker restarts. Without an internet connection the adapter cannot start, so the free version should have one available.
Do you want to run several servers, or your visualisation without an internet connection? Then the offline license is the right choice.
Commercial license for vis-2
The commercial license is required when ioBroker vis-2 is used as part of a commercial or business activity, for example by a legal entity (company, association, organisation), or in scenarios where a monetary benefit arises.
That includes, among others:
- use in customer projects
- use as part of services or paid systems
- operation by companies, public authorities or other institutions
For private, non-commercial use the free license remains available.
What does the vis-2 offline license give you?
A free vis-2 license needs an internet connection to verify the license in the cloud. The offline license lets you use the smart home dashboards you built locally, without an internet connection.
That is particularly useful if you:
- work in an environment with an unstable or limited internet connection: your control stays reachable locally and reliably usable at all times
- want maximum control and privacy: all visualisations and data stay on your own system and are not processed through external servers
With the offline license your visualisation runs on its own, secure and independent of the cloud, for demanding or security-critical environments.
Jaeger-Design widgets
- Widgets for vis-2 – sorted by rooms and functions such as light, blinds and heating
- Lifetime license – bound to a UUID, transferable up to three times
- Try before you buy – in the vis-2 editor without a license, in the runtime with one
What are the Jaeger-Design widgets?
Jaeger-Design widgets offer customisable elements for the ioBroker vis-2 visualisation. Alongside the many free widgets ioBroker provides, they make dashboards simple and intuitive to design, sorted by rooms and functions such as light, blinds and heating. The design is clear and easy to use.
Where do they come from?
The widgets were originally developed together with a design studio for a luxury villa in Baden-Württemberg. Now they are available to everyone.
What applies to the license?
The lifetime license is bound to a UUID but can be transferred up to three times. To change a license, write to info@iobroker.net.
You can try the widgets without a license: in the vis-2 editor you can place them and look at them. In the running visualisation, the runtime, they are only shown with a license.
KNX
- ETS project import – read the knxproj file directly, action and status addresses are matched automatically
- GA tools – view and adjust group addresses
- directLink – link KNX components directly with non-KNX components
The KNX adapter imports the KNX project file directly and assigns action and status addresses automatically while doing so. The GA tools let you reach and adjust the KNX group addresses easily. The directLink function connects KNX components directly with non-KNX components. The adapter is tested against the current KNX hardware, and matching updates follow ETS releases promptly. It is backwards compatible: project versions from ETS releases 4, 5 and 6 can all be imported.
The ETS licenses and the necessary KNX components are bought by the developer. Part of those costs is therefore recovered through the licenses.
The openKNX adapter is a fork of the very early KNX adapter. It also connects to the KNX bus, but the functions listed above are missing there.
Do I need a license?
Not up to 500 data points. Up to that size the KNX adapter runs without registration and without a license key. Only beyond it do you need a license, for one year or unlimited.
What is a data point?
A data point corresponds to a group address from your ETS project. The adapter imports your knxproj file and builds the object structure in ioBroker from it, the way you know it from ETS.
How many data points do I have?
You do not have to guess. After importing the knxproj file the adapter shows the number of imported objects. That is the number your license has to cover.
Your system ID is in the adapter configuration as well. From there you can fetch a purchased license directly with your iobroker.net credentials.
Frequently asked questions
Purchase and payment
- How can I pay?
- You can pay with PayPal or buy on account. Purchase on account is possible for licenses with a term of one year or more.

License and device
- Where do I find my serial number (UUID)?
- On the vis-2 configuration page in the ioBroker admin, or by entering “iob uuid” on the command line.

- No. A license is bound to the serial number of one server and cannot be used on several servers at the same time.
- Can I move my license to new hardware?
