Licenses overview
Almost everything about ioBroker is free. The JS controller, the admin panel, and nearly all adapters are openly available on GitHub , in most cases under the MIT license. The only things that cost money are those that incur ongoing costs: three adapters and the cloud services.
In most cases, no license is required. Those who run ioBroker at home, connect devices, write scripts, and manage everything within their own network pay nothing.
Two types of licenses
They differ in every way: what they are valid for, what they are bound to, and where they are administered.

Why two servers
This is reliably confusing at first, but follows the division above:
- ioBroker.net is the free access point. Adapter licenses are managed there, and the account for free remote access is also located there.
- ioBroker.pro is the paid cloud service, which includes voice assistants and extended remote access.
Having an account on one server does not automatically mean having one on the other.
Where the conditions are stated
Prices, packages and quotas are subject to change, therefore they are not listed in this documentation, but on the product page:
- The licenses section provides an overview of all packages and prices. It is also linked at the top of every page.
- Adapter licenses are ordered on the ioBroker.net pricing page .
- Access licenses are available on the ioBroker.pro pricing page .
These pages explain how the licenses work, not what they cost.
How the project is financed
An open-source project cannot generate revenue to pay for things like servers. That's where ioBroker GmbH comes in. They provide the community project with infrastructure like the forum server free of charge and have purchased development services in the past, which have been invested in the open-source projects, such as the admin panel.
